Frequently Asked Questions
Grooming for your puppy should start as soon as they’ve completed their puppy shot series. Puppy shots are typically completed by four to six months.
There are ways to get your puppy used to some of groom shop noises and activities:
- brush with a gentle brush and comb,
- play with and massage their feet and face,
- use a hand-held blow dryer on a cool setting. Keep the dryer moving, not pointed at one spot and not at their eyes. This will get them used to the sound and air motion of the dryer.
Doing this at least once-a-week will help your new puppy get used to being handled. Of course, have lots of yummy small treats handy too!
We require up-to-date rabies. You can bring the information with you or have your vet email to befurandaftergrooming@gmail.com.
Grooming your pet requires a time commitment and willingness take on the responsibility of trimming nails and bathing at a minimum. If your pup has long hair then you’ll need to learn basic hair trimming techniques depending upon their breed. Some of the reasons to use a professional groomer are:
- Experience handling dogs of different breeds and size.
- The right grooming tools and know which ones are best to use depending upon your pet’s breed and coat condition.
- Manage unsavory tasks like flea control, anal gland expression, etc.
Grooming is important to maintaining your pet’s health and cleanliness. Groomers can spot possible health conditions that should be brought to the attention of your veterinarian. Having a professional brush your dog’s hair can prevent mats that can cause knots in your pet’s hair especially with double-coated dogs. Mats can lead to pain and discomfort and may require your pet be shaved. A good brushing will also make your dog’s coat shine. Regular nail trimming or grinding prevents nails curling and growing into their skin.
Many times, your groomer will be the first to spot skin infections or other problems because they know what to look for. They will find inflammations, new lumps, infections, rashes or lesions that may be missed by even the most diligent owner. They may also catch an underlying problem, and the sooner these issues are found, the sooner they can be treated.
The proper frequency of grooming sessions depends on your pet’s breed, hair length, and coat type. In most cases, though, regular grooming should be done about every four to six weeks.
Please see the Services page.
The duration of a grooming session depends on the size of your pet, and their coat type and length. It also depends on what types of services are requested and how cooperative your pet is. Ask at drop-off for an estimate of how long the session will take.
The cost of grooming varies depending on your pet’s breed and size, and the type of coat they have. Whether or not your pet has any significant behavioral issues can also affect the cost. Please ask to the receptionist for an estimate when booking or ask the groomer at drop-off who can give you a more accurate estimate after seeing your pet and discussing which services you’d like.
our Client Satisfaction and Refund policy for more details.
- A $20.00 deposit is required to secure an appointment for the day and time that works for your schedule. The deposit is applied at check-out to your total fee.
- If you give us 48-hours cancellation notice, we’ll roll over the deposit to your next appointment. However, if you cancel a 2nd time, we’ll keep your deposit.
- The purpose of the deposit is to ensure that you will keep your appointment. When we book an appointment for you, we’re saying “no” to other customers who would have liked to book for that day and time.
- Groomers are paid on commission. So, if appointments don’t show, groomers don’t receive income for the no-shows.
- Reminders are sent. We call / text you in a week in advance and again 48-hours prior to your appointment to remind you.
- Deposits aren’t required for walk-in appointments. However, if you’re looking for a haircut / groom on a specific day / time, appointments are strongly recommended.
Happy Customers
Posted on Google Jeanie B Great servicePosted on Google Halima Wilson Took my cat here for nail trims, they were very friendly and caring and my cat seemed to get used to going there every other week. They no longer do cat services, but I still give them 5 stars for service!Posted on Google Ben Bray I can't say enough they were awesome from beginning to end. My dog looks awesome, I've found my new groomer!Posted on Google Paige Thrasher I can not express how happy that I am that we found this place. We have used them 4 or 5 times now and Blaze has had a different groomer each time but they were honestly all so great. Today was the first time we got him a full groom and Deanna (our groomer) knew exactly what I wanted even though I could not describe it to her exactly. Befur and After will be the only groomer we use from now on. Not only did I love the results but I loved how my dog loves the staff and feels so comfortable there. Kim at the front desk is always so sweet and helpful when I call up there to book an appointment or ever have questions. Again, I really cannot express how much we enjoy this groomer. (:
